Yoga vs. Qigong: Health Advantages
Both yoga and qigong are ancient practices. Yoga is an Indian tradition, whereas Qigong is Chinese in origin. Both are movement practices, though their movements serve different purposes. Yoga is typically moderate to fast-paced, includes strong movements that are held for a period of time, and necessitates some athleticism. Qigong, on the other hand, is slow and methodical, flows from one movement to the next, and is accessible to almost anyone.
Before or after movements, enter a meditative state.
Yoga and qigong both promote a meditative state, which is one of their main health benefits. Yoga uses movements to get there, whereas Qigong induces a meditative state prior to movement. According to author Bill Douglas' book "The Complete Idiot's Guide to T'ai Chi and Qigong," qigong's goal is to bring enlightened awareness into your physical life, whereas yoga takes you to a place of peace. Each achieves the same result, but through a different route.
Postures: Static vs. Flowing
Another distinction between yoga and qigong is that yoga is primarily composed of static postures, whereas qigong is composed of flowing postures. According to Douglas, the flowing postures of qigong may be more beneficial as a life model because they teach practitioners how to stay focused even when external factors change. On the other hand, yoga postures are better for athletic development and deepening strength because many of the poses require muscle activity.

Qigong enhances balance.
Another health advantage of qigong is that almost all of its movements help improve balance, whereas yoga only has a few. Qigong's standing motion constantly tests your balance. If you suffer from disorientation, vertigo, or eye conditions caused by imbalance, qigong may be a better practice for you than yoga.
