Yoga as a Recreational Activity to Help You Balance Your Life
This millennium discipline is one of the best comprehensive care systems currently available. Through the practice of asanas, breathing, and meditation, yoga strengthens and calms the body, mind, and spirit.
Furthermore, it is an excellent hobby that can be done at home and provides numerous benefits. Then we will have a better understanding of this discipline or hobby.
What exactly is yoga?
Yoga is more than a practice; it is a way of life that heals, cares for, and strengthens the body, mind, and spirit through asanas, breathing, and meditation.
It has been practiced for thousands of years in India and has become one of the physical and spiritual conditioning systems with the most followers today.
Hinduism is one of the world's most complex cultures.
Yoga is a religious, spiritual, cultural, and social tradition for them.
There are texts from thousands of years ago that speak about meditation practices, breathing, self-transcendence, and a set of postures that help the yogi purify his body: the asanas.
There are over a hundred different types of yoga.
Various styles derived from Hatha Yoga, one of the most dynamic, are known and practiced in the West. There are those that are more spiritual, such as Kundalini Yoga, and those that are more physical and demanding, such as Bikram Yoga, which is practiced in a heated room (at a normal temperature in India).
There's even facial yoga to help you relax and tone your facial muscles.
What Is Yoga Made Up Of?
During a yoga session, which typically lasts between an hour and an hour and a half, different asanas, or postures, are practiced in tandem with breathing, which is beneficial to both the body and the mind.
Asanas vary in difficulty, ranging from the most basic for beginners to the most difficult for advanced students.
Most classes begin with a warm-up called "Greetings to the Sun," which consists of a dynamic sequence of positions that begin standing and lead us down to the floor to warm and lubricate our muscles and joints. All of this, combined with breathing, aids in the production of heat and body energy.
After the warm-up, asanas, anas or stapositions, ions begin, with each posture having a counter-posture to work the body and muscles in a balanced manner.
If the class is dynamic, as in Yoga Flow, Power, Dynamic, or Ashtanga, the asanas will be performed in a fluid manner.
All yoga classes conclude with ato- to 15-minute relaxation to restore balance to the body and mind. A final meditation can be performed depending on the style of yoga or the teacher.
Yoga as a hobby can be practiced in a specialized center or sports club, or after learning the proper technique and asanas, you can follow a personal practice (sadhana), which allows us to exercise and calm our minds wherever we are.
Yoga's health advantages
Yoga, in any of its modalities, produces significant changes in those who practice it, not just physical changes, because it provides control, balance, and inner peace.
Asanas lubricate the organs, improve blood circulation and muscle flexibility, and aid in the proper functioning of the joints, muscles, and other parts of the body.
The asanas not only exercise the muscles, strength, endurance, and balance, but also massage the internal organs, activate the metabolism (yoga practice burns a lot of calories, especially at rest), oxygenate the body, and improve intestinal functioning.
This is the case with inverted postures, which increase blood flow and thus rejuvenate the organism from within.
Yoga provides energy and improves health by strengthening and stretching the muscles throughout the body, correcting postural problems and preventing back and joint pathologies.
Yoga will not only change our bodies, but it will also change our energy. It will help us to be more aware of ourselves, to discover many things about our soul, to take care of our bodies in a healthy way, and to gain calmness and serenity.
Yoga is especially recommended for those looking for a physical conditioning system that not only trains their bodies but also allows them to work their minds.
As a result, it is ideal for those who suffer from stress, anxiety, and sleep or depression issues, as well as those who want to develop their spiritual side and change their lifestyle.
Types of Yoga
Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini Yoga employs Hatha asana but usually associates them with kriya, or sets of postures with a single goal: to improve kidney functions, open the heart, improve breathing capacity, activate the lymphatic system, work the pelvic floor, and release emotions.
Songs and mantras are interspersed throughout the class, and all physical practice is directed toward a final meditation. Kundalini yoga practitioners believe that this style of yoga awakens the kundalini, the energy at the base of the body that we have all numbed.
When a snake awakens, it travels up the body to reach the head.
Yoga by Iyengar
Iyengar Yoga, developed by the same name's master, is the most technical and perfectionist of all. Iyengar yoga, which is based on Hatha positions but lacks systematization, uses belts, blocks, chairs, blankets, and other tools to correct postures and improve practice.
A fascinating discipline for those who want to practice yoga safely and develop a solid technical foundation.
Ashtanga Yoga
Ashtanga Yoga is the most intense and dynamic of all styles, and it is only appropriate for practitioners with strong physical abilities. The same greetings to the sun and positions are made in this style as in Hatha, but with the addition of an athlete's jumps, balances, postures, and sequences.
This style is best suited to those who want to train hard and require strong sensations while exercising or who want to burn calories.
Bikram Yoga
Bikram Yoga is one of the most unique forms of yoga. This style is similar to the Hatha Yoga series, but it is done in a room that is about 40 degrees Fahrenheit, or about the temperature of India.
As a result of the constant sweating, the heat causes the muscles to stretch much more deeply and the body to eliminate many toxins. Bring light clothing and a large bottle of water to practice with.
Vinyasa Yoga
Many other yoga styles (Flow, Integral, Nauli, AcroYoga, etc.) are easy to find, especially in California, which has the most yoga practitioners in the world (as we understand it in the West).
There are numerous physical and mental benefits to practicing yoga as a hobby, so it is highly recommended. However, you must proceed slowly so that your muscles stretch out and your body becomes accustomed to it.
